A BUAV investigation has revealed puppies and kittens being exposed to deadly viruses, killed and then dissected — all before they’re six months old.
The tiny, wriggling beagle puppies at pharmaceutical giant Merck, Sharp and Dohme have never known anything outside the bars of their cages. Many of them have been separated from their mothers at four weeks of age — way too young, according to animal welfare laws. But they’re still probably completely trusting, playfully nipping at the fingers of researchers or rolling over to show their pudgy bellies. That is, until they’re exposed to viruses and forced to suffer slow, agonizing deaths.
According to an undercover investigation by the BUAV, the researchers at MSD routinely subject very young calves, kittens, puppies and rabbits to lethal diseases for “research purposes” and then do nothing as they grow ill and waste away. Secret video footage from the BUAV shows the terror these baby animals face, including puppies yelping and crying out during the drawing of blood and lethal injections.
Even if the animals don’t die from the diseases, they’re often killed anyway for dissection purposes. No effort is made to find them a home or allow them to experience love for the first time in their lives.
All in all, during the BUAV’s eight-month investigation, more than 90 puppies and at least a dozen kittens were killed at the facility. Healthy adult female beagles were also euthanised once their puppies were taken away from them.
Researching animal vaccines shouldn’t mean that dozens of puppies and kittens have to experience such cruelty. Demand a stop to the experiments at MSD!
