Found as a two week old kitten in Almeria this lovely fella had been in three foster homes before he came to us. We were first made aware of him a month or so before we adopted him, as he was living in a foster with a dog, who unfortunately died. Marti loves dogs and we had been hoping that Sophie would be a play friend with Tigra. We had decided to adopt Marti but when we rescued Tobi we thought one was enough, but felt a tad guilty and figured that Tobi would like a play mate so the rest as they say is history!!!
They are without doubt getting stricter, or to be accurate more thorough, at the Pet Passport Control at Calais when we take the Shuttle to the UK on our pet transport runs.
I have absolutely no issue with this, although I would like to see more consistency as what one inspector will pull you up on, another will let go, and as a result it is taking longer for the message of the ‘right way’ to filter down to rescues, vets and individuals transporting their pets.
The new Pet Passports very clearly state that when applying the rabies vaccinations in the vets Stamp & Signature box it must at least include name, address, telephone number and signature.
This was a new requirement when they introduced the new passports so a lot of the vets stamps do not include this information, so it is not being added to the passports.
This has never been an issue to us regards rescue animals going under TRACES as the inspectors at Calais only check the validity of the TRACES Certificates, but for PETS Scheme animals it can be an issue if not completed correctly.
On our latest transport we encountered a very thorough inspector who noticed the vets stamp did not have the address and telephone number. Fortunately because we had a number of pets from the same owner all their passports had the same vets details in the front (with address and phone number) and the same stamp on the Rabies, Worming and Clinical Examination pages so they accepted the passports, but did issue a Waiver Notice confirming what needed to be done.
So please, rescue or owner, check that the vet fills in your passport correctly as we can’t take animals with incorrectly completed passports.
Today we celebrate six (6) years with beautiful Fleur in our lives. We were in a local bar when Sands got a call about a injured and distressed kitten, trapped in a garden with a dead sibling.
She went to collect Fleur and the following day took her to Miguel, who thought the leg could be saved, but she would need a pin and to be immobile for six weeks!!
So for six weeks we never left her alone, one of us always with her, and she spent hours curled up on our knees. After a week or so she was able to move around and play a little with Moreno (who remains her man!) and Oscar, so by the time she was healed she was obviously staying with her two ‘besties’.
Without doubt the office is her domain hence aka Office Cat, in particular her chair which I have the audacity to try and use when I want to use my computer!!
Not a fan of prawns her treat today will be White Fish.
Five (5) years ago today we found Dusky on the beach here in Almerimar, when for some reason we went for a walk in the evening, something we were not in the habit of doing!
As fate would have it, not only did we go for a walk, but I chanced to look down as we walked past some new apartments being built and saw this tiny black bundle mooching round.
We picked him up and Sands carried him home, during which time he purred non stop and Sands had decided we were keeping him even before we got him home!
He is the softest, friendliest cat in the world, as far as the the other cats are concerned, and while he is very fond of Sands and I he is not exactly a cuddle monster. These last months he has started coming onto the bed more, and he is forever chatting away and rubbing round our legs – but that is mainly because he loves the dried Chicken treats we give them.
He is best friends with Kasper, but really does get on great with all the cats.
Without doubt he is our Roof Cat as he is first up and last off every day, and tends to wake us up as soon as is day light to remind us that he needs the roof opening!
We have added Holland (Rotterdam) to our locations for the scheduled transport of cats and dogs to Germany, Holland and Belgium to accommodate our latest preferred transport partner Greyhound Rescue Holland who are now re-homing Galgos from 112 Carlota Galgos.
The location is now available for cats and dogs traveling under either the PETS Scheme or TRACES on the relevant booking form
