As schools begin making plans for more pupils to return in the Autumn term, it is vital that children and young people with sight loss feel safe to go back to the classroom.
With the layout of classrooms and corridors changing and the added challenges of social distancing, children with sight loss may find it more difficult to feel confident in these new surroundings. That’s why we’re calling on the government and schools to work together to make sure children with sight loss get the support they need to help them enter the classroom with confidence.
“It’s crucial if children with sight loss are to remain safe, confident and actively independent in school that they receive timely specialist support to ensure they can learn about any changes.” – Peter Lock, Guide Dogs Habilitation & Implementation Lead, Skills, Information and Support
