Protect Your Pets From Winter Gritting

Just a reminder that antifreeze contains ethylene glycol, and the consumption of rock salt by your pet cat or dog can cause dehydration, liver failure and pancreatitis.

I write this because the ‘gritting season’ is here across the UK, Germany, Belgium, France and other countries which suffer from snow throughout the winter (I mention UK, Germany, Belgium and France as we travel through those on each of our pet transports between Spain the EU and the UK) and whilst we appreciate the safety measure for our journeys it can be harmful to your pets.

Each year many pets become ill and die from licking after walking through the gritted snow and then licking their paws when they get home, so the safest thing to do is to walk them through fresh water when they get home, or clean their paws with fresh water to get rid of the potentially harmful substances.
