Rozie the Captive Elephant’s Three Babies All Died the Same Horrible Way. Demand Her Zoo Be Shut Down Before More Babies Die!
Since 2012, every single baby elephant born at ABQ BioPark in Albuquerque, New Mexico has died of endotheliotropic herpesvirus (EEHV). Rozie, a beloved elephant at the zoo, birthed three of these babies whose lives were cut tragically short. Now, Rozie will likely be forcibly impregnated again for the zoo’s profit, even though the risk of death for her future baby remains high! Meanwhile, ABQ BioPark spent millions of dollars to upgrade its park, pouring that money into observation decks to improve visitors’ view of the elephants. The poor animals themselves will remain tragically enclosed in the same lifeless yard, completely and totally removed from their wild, natural habitat — and still at risk of future tragedies.
ABQ BioPark is so nightmarish, it recently won the title of second worst zoo in North America for elephants. And even though elephants keep dying, the zoo is planning to expand its captive-bred elephant program. Poor Rozie is a cornerstone of that breeding program. Her babies Thorn, Jazmine, and Daizy were all born into captivity — and died there, too. Even though EEHV is a serious threat to new babies born within its facility, the ABQ zoo is refusing to stop impregnating elephants for its own gain — showing no concern for the sick babies or their heartbroken mothers! Sign the petition to demand that the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service revoke ABQ BioPark’s license and send the zoo’s remaining elephants to a sanctuary! The government must prevent more innocent elephants from dying!
