The pillars of factory farming are cruelty and exploitation

Every year approximately 80 billion land animals are brutally slaughtered for human consumption. Never in history has the demand for meat been so high, nor have the conditions in which meat is produced been so inhumane. Factory farmed animals live humiliating, painful lives filled with unthinkable amounts of suffering.

It feels as though every week, we hear news of gruesome undercover footage collected at one factory farm or another that reveals overt, needless violence against the caged animals within. And that’s the cruelty that’s technically illegal — the legal forms of abuses are just as bad. Battery or gestational cages that are made to constrict the animals within from any movement at all. Conveyer belt techniques of slaughter that leave many animals fully alive when their throats are slit or their feathers are boiled off. The list goes on and on.

This conversation is not new. The horrors of factory farms are well-known and well-documented, and most Americans believe that the conditions in which animals are slaughtered en masse are unethical. It’s time for the USDA to do something about it. Sign now if you agree that fixing the horrors of factory farms is long overdue! We demand comprehensive animal welfare reform in factory farming now!
