Thousands of dogs are injured, some of them dying, in the cruel racing industry every year

In 2020 alone, over 3,500 greyhounds were injured on licensed tracks in Great Britain. 200 poor dogs even died on these tracks. So why is the Welsh government pretending that licensure might make tracks safer, and still considering granting a license to a racetrack in Caerphilly?

Worldwide and specifically in the UK, people are waking up to the exploitative and abusive conditions that these poor dogs are forced to live and race in just to make humans money. In the UK, for example, some dogs are kenneled for up to 23 hours a day, kept in tight, uncomfortable conditions with their peers, and forced to wear muzzles as “long term solutions” instead of thoughtful, compassionate training or less crowded, stressful living conditions.

And this is all happening at licensed tracks. The fact that Valley Greyhounds wants to become Wales’ only licensed track, citing ridiculously that it would actually allow them to provide better welfare for their dogs, is absurd. Clearly, abuse and welfare concerns do not disappear with a license. We must continue to be a voice for these dogs, and not let this licensing happen. Sign the petition now to push the government of Wales to deny this racetrack a license, and then ban greyhound racing in Wales altogether!
