Greyhound racing is one of the most exploitative and abusive ways we profit from animals’ suffering. The sport is so ugly and cruel that it has been banned in 40 out of the 50 United States. But in the United Kingdom, greyhound racing is thriving — and greyhounds are dying. Sign the petition and demand that the government of the United Kingdom finally ban the antiquated, bloody sport of greyhound racing!
Over 400 greyhounds whose callous owners raced them for profit died or were euthanized. Some of them were killed on the racetrack or euthanized on site due to injuries that were deemed too expensive — these poor dogs’ lives were deemed not worth the money, even though they only ever made money for owners, tracks, and gamblers. But life before death is no walk in the park for these dogs either. Some are kept in tiny cages with other dogs for 23 hr per day. They will be forced to be muzzled most of that time since that mental anguish often results in fear and aggression. Then they are raced, sometimes with drugs in their systems so they can run past painful injuries.
As soon as the animals can’t make their owners any money because of injury or age, they will almost always be put down. Enough is enough. The Greyhound Board of Great Britain has promised again and again to prioritize greyhound welfare, but they just haven’t done it. We need to demand the UK finally bans greyhound racing!
