13710/12: 2 new photos arrived yesterday of ‘crazy’ Indi, and Indi relaxing with Anke.
03/10/12: Indi has now been with Anke about 4 months and with her he has turned into quite the cuddle boy as you can see from today’s photos in the gallery. Anke has sent through lots of photos in the last 2 months and her updates are below. He will still need a little time with new people but we’re hoping all these beautiful photos will show what a lovely, playful, affectionate boy he is once he knows and trusts a family. What he needs is the right humans AND a younger cat to play with. Here’s hoping Anke finds this for him soon.
10/09/12: “Laurel and Hardy! In Germany called thick and stupid!” Indi with Hannibal.
07/09/12: A lovely boy!!!
24/08/12: Indi and Charlie are NOT in a good mood because the weather is bad again.
20/08/12: The first time Indi sat on Anke’s knees.
15/08/12: Contented Indi.
06/08/12: Indi the lunatic boy playing crazy outside.
07/24/12: “Finally Summer and now we have happy cats!”
18/07/12: Anke sent me photos this morning of Indi on the balcony: “Today Indi is with me for 10 weeks and he becomes more and more tame. So today I decided that he was allowed to go on the balcony for the very first time. We were 20 minutes outside (of course under control)and he loved it. Charly and little whitch Oli were with him and everything was very exciting. Oli didn´t like it (surprise!) because it is HER balcony but Indi was relaxed and Olivita extremely secondary. He enjoyed the new odours and the sun and now he is all of a dither, is running through the flat and miaows. Later we will go one more time on the balcony.” The latest photos are now in the gallery below.
15/07/12: Yesterday Anke sent new photos of beautiful Indi. They are in the gallery below. He stayed on the couch for strokes even when Christina visited. This is great progress.
04/07/12: Anke has just sent me more fantastic news of Indi! “He is such a cute guy! Till now I was allowed to stroke him while I was sitting right down. This morning he came to the couch to cuddle while I had breakfast. He purred and purred and when I finished and stood up he ran behind me through the whole flat and miaowed to stop me to continue the stroke. After I nearly fell over him I sat down and we cuddled again. He is still very jumpy and I am not allowed to stroke him whenever or wherever I want but he becomes more and more trusting.
Yesterday he enjoyed the sun, like you see on the first two photos. He would love to be on the balcony, I know because he is sitting in front of the door and cries, but he must still wait. He is still too unsettled to be allowed outside. On the third photo you see Hannibal, Oli and Indi in the bed. All my cats prefer the side with the cotton pillow; Only Indi loves satin like I found out this week. My little queen! He and MaPu´s Ramazzotti would be a perfect fit.”
Fantastic new photos are now in the gallery below!
28/06/12: Since my last update, Indi has continued to grow in confidence, and has settled really well into his foster home. He is no longer a really nervous cat and enjoys playing with Anke’s 5 cats. About 10 days ago I received this lovely email from Anke: “This morning he played with Cini and Nelly and while Charly or Cini are sitting on my legs I am allowed to touch Indi too. And I think Indi like to annoy Olivita. Indi is faster and more agile than Oli and he likes to run to her, to hustle her and to escape directly. The whole time Indi coos! Every time Olivita becomes very angry but he is too fast for her.” Then 2 days later came the photos of Indi really letting Anke stroke him. AND yesterday for the first time Indi came to Anke and actually asked to be stroked. He has become a VERY sweet boy!!! Enjoy all the photos below.

07/06/12: Today came more great news of Indi from Anke: “Today was the first time I could caress Indi! Charly was sitting on my knees and purred. And Indi wanted to cuddle with Charly so he came to the couch and gave kisses to Charly while I started to caress Indi. First I think he thought it was Charly and he was frightened when he recognized me but after some seconds he came back and I could pet him again. So we spend 20 minutes with caressing and breaking away from me alternately. But while I touched him he was purring a lot and he liked it very much but he was afraid the same time.” This is wonderful progress for Indi. I am very proud of him!
06/06/12: Yesterday evening Anke sent me a fantastic new photo of her ‘sweetheart’ together with his favourite friend Nelly. He also seems to really like Cini, Anke’s other female cat too. AND he ha developed some very expensive eating habits, his favourite food now being Cosma pure chicken. Anke is really spoiling him. Enjoy the new photo.
03/06/12: Indi, now 2 years old, was special from the moment Montse saw him, badly injured at the emergency room, where the people who had found him took him to be put to sleep. Montse decided to save him and battled for weeks to help Indi overcome the severe dog bites, and burns from a car, that he was suffering from. She succeeded, but as she couldn’t explain to Indi the reason for his painful treatments, she was left with a very nervous kitten, who grew up into a beautiful big boy, but one still not very confident with humans. He was happy and playful with the other cats at Montse’s, and she could touch him, but we knew it would be hard to find him the right home with patient caring people. I from the start wanted to send Indi to foster Mum Anke, so that she and her lovely, friendly cats could work their magic. Indi needed more time from the right humans to build his confidence. This is difficult in a rescue home like Montse’s as there are so many other cats needing her time.
Anke couldn’t take Indi easily as she has 4 of her own cats and long-time foster cat Olli, also from Montse’s. Anke did however find Indi what we thought was a great family, with one gentle cat, and a lovely house and garden. They got ready a special room for Indi so that he could relax and get used to his new humans after the April transport, and for the first couple of days, although he was hiding, noone was too concerned. By about day 4 however when he had still eaten nothing, his adoptants became really nervous, and decide he needed to go to the vet for a transfusion. After he bit the husband badly when he tried to box him, Anke had to take over Indi’s care, and after the vet treatment, she took him home to her office. Indi was now an emergency foster case.
Indi spent the first couple of days alone at Anke’s but as he still refused to eat, she decided to let him mix with her own cats. I believe this was the turning point. For tame cats that like humans, it is good to give them a little time before they meet the house cats, but what Indi needed were cats NOT humans. Indi loves cats. He is more afraid of strange people!!! At first Indi hid from Anke’s cats too but soon he started to come out from under the sofa when Anke wasn’t in the room. Still he didn’t eat and another transfusion was needed at Anke’s. We all waited and worried, and it was on about day 10 that Indi finally hit rock bottom and decided to eat. Anke saw his eyes grow very tired, but the next morning the food bowl was empty and his energy level was better. We are all very relieved.
Now he is going from strength to strength, is starting to socialise with Anke’s cats, will accept her in the same room, and is even playing, AND of course eating lots of nutritious Grau wet food that he now seems to love.
He will need some more weeks before he is ready to find a home and he will still need the right home but things are now looking very good for this beautiful survivor. Meanwhile Indi’s adoptants are fostering gentle 8-year old Felix for us, with a view to possibly keeping him instead, and Olli remains consistent. She does not remember Indi from Montse’s and is not going to be particularly friendly to him! Fortunately Anke’s other cats are kinder and Indi has been trying to be friends with Charlie and Cini first. I am happy for him and smiling that Indi became Anke’s foster cat after all! Enjoy the photos. I am sure there will be more to come!!!
First the latest photos of Indi looking relaxed, playing and making friends:
It was just over a week ago that Anke sent me this photo of Indi sleeping in the cat tree. He had finally come out of hiding!
Until then Anke was sending me different views of Indi under the sofa, with Charlie one day stealing the food he still would not eat!
AND some earlier photos from Montse’s:
