Just a puppy, Mike was thrown into a rubbish pit and stoned by children – THIS IS THE REALITY FOR DOGS IN AFGHANISTAN!

Today we’re reaching out to you with a heart-rending story of abuse from Afghanistan. With your kindness and generosity, we WILL be able to change the ending of this tale.

As you’ll recall, the situation for animals (and people) in Afghanistan took a terrible turn when British and American troops withdrew from the region at the end of August this year.

At the time, you helped us to raise emergency funds to help support the animals who faced an uncertain and likely brutal future under Taliban rule. (Your donations have helped to provide food and medical care to the poor animals left behind as prices have skyrocketed and pet supplies have become increasingly difficult and expensive to obtain.)

Now, with the region entirely under the control of the Taliban, stories of animal abuse are beginning to pour in.

Mike the puppy was found trapped at the bottom of a rubbish pit. Children were hurling stones at him as he lay there, unable to escape.

He was weak and his body was broken – there was nothing he could do but lie in the stinking trash pit and endure his horrific battering.

When Mike was just moments from death, the situation was spotted by a member of the Kabul Small Animal Rescue (KSAR) team, our partner on the ground. They’re constantly patrolling the area for neglected, abused or sick animals. The team found a way to get to Mike and get him out before it was too late. He was terrified, riddled with mange, and in pain.

Once at KSAR, the team established that Mike is not much more than a baby – just 18 months old, with the sweetest nature despite the horrors he has endured. We can only imagine how long he’d been wandering the streets, desperate and alone, before he found himself in this terrible predicament. Was he once a beloved pet? Did his owners flee and leave him behind? We’ll never know – but we do know that Mike deserved far better than he got, and with your donations, he’ll never have to suffer again.

Mike is malnourished, riddled with mange and facing a long road to recovery. He needs food and veterinary care so that he may heal and grow strong, and perhaps even find a loving home one day – it’s the least every dog deserves.

Please, donate generously towards Mike’s recovery, and show him the kindness and compassion that no one else has since the Taliban seized control. With your donation, Mike will have the chance to live a life free of abuse, off the streets of Kabul. He is counting on you. Will you help him?
