Salma is VERY Happy!

25/02/12: Kerstin sent me some lovely new photos of Salma relaxing at home, and we then exchanged emails about whether she was still looking for a home for Salma after fostering her for nearly a year. This is a difficult one as Kerstin has long-term plans for the future and a fifth animal doesn’t quite come into them. Salma however does seem to love her home with Kerstin, and Kerstin loves Salma, so the situation is similar to that of Olivita. Kerstin will continue to look for the perfect home for Salma, but this little girl may int he end stay with her. The last interested person did not come back and all has been quiet now for some months. In the meantime, Salma is still VERY happy!

13/10/11: Amazingly Salma has now lived with Kerstin and her family for nearly 9 months, having rejected 2 adoptants earlier in the year. Kerstin DOES love her but really doesn’t want to keep another cat as she already has 2 and 2 dogs, AND she wants to be able to help foster other cats in the future. She has been looking for the right adoptant for our funny little girl for months and finally a couple of days ago I received this email from her: “Yesterday evening I had an interested lady with her husband in Salma… This is the first good interested person in her for a long time… she is a vet’s assistant and they are living not far from me… they will move into a house in 2 or 3 months and have a dog of 10 years – a “great dane”… I think it is good if they will often come in the next weeks and visit Salma and then they will keep her in 2 or 3 months… please pray, that Salma will love them… I am sure that would be a good home for her… and then perhaps I could foster another cat again..”

This does sound promising, but in the end Salma WILL decide! In the meantime enjoy the latest photos of this little madam:

04/07/11: More new photos came in yesterday of Salma in her very happy foster home. After her 2 abortive adoptions, it has gone a little quiet re. people interested in her, but the more lovely photos I see from Kerstin, the more I feel she will be settled very soon. In the meantime she continues to be a funny, charming little madam!!!

25/04/11: The latest photos from Kerstin, show Salma having fun in the garden, playing with an egg, and resting after her games.

She is one happy little cat! Kerstin says that she will look for a new adoptant whom Salma will loves, and who will have a lot of time for her. I still think that Salma thinks she has found her home and more particularly her Mum. This was Kerstin’s email with the photos:

“The egg was from breakfast – nobody wants this so I gave it the cats or dogs… and I only had one egg… so the cat or dog who found it first, is the winner and so I need not decide who gets this… Salma was the first, but my dog sttole it… so he ate the whole egg… ;o)

Salma seems to be very happy… she is with me all the day… if I am inside – salma is inside… if I am outside… she is in the garden, too… and likes to sit on the chair and smiles and is catching the flies and runs in the grass… if we pour the grass, Salma likes to have a shower… ;o)”

She also said that whilst Salma is very happy and now quite tame, she definitely choses whom she likes, and if she is uncomfortable with people or they with her, she stays a safe distance away and watches! Funny little girl!!!

TIRED!!!

11/04/11: Salma is back at Kerstin’s AGAIN! It seems she has decided where she wants to live. After a few days with her new adoptant, she began crying a lot, building up to all night every night.

Kerstin took her back at the weekend and within 2 hours she was perfectly happy again. The problem is that Kerstin already has 2 cats and 2 dogs, and at times wants to foster, so she really doesn’t want to keep Salma. Salma however I do think for now has other plans! Let’s hope Kerstin can find Salma a third adoptant that she will love as much as Kerstin. This is always potentially a problem with semi-ferals; they chose a person to trust and to be their person, and then noone else will do.

“Oh… Salma is happy again… sleeps all the night and in the evening she cuddles with me on the Sofa and during the day she plays and cuddles with my Axy or relaxes…”

23/03/11: Latest news if that Salma has a lovely new adoptant, and will be off soon.

We are fairly confident this one will work out fine as Salma’s new Mum met her at Kerstin’s and was allowed to stroke our little madam from the first. Salma certainly appeared to like her. For now she is VERY happy where she is! Kerstin says:

“Salma says I am her best friend… she try to clean me all the day… follows me all the day and sleeps on me in the bed and she likes to catch my feet”.

02/03/11: Salma lasted only a couple of days in her new home. She cried all night, SO loud that the neighbours were complaining!

Now I have new photos of her happy again at foster Mum Kerstin’s. Word is that Salma is in love with Kerstin’s big male cat Axy, and she also seems very relaxed with a very friendly dog. MAYBE Kerstin will be tempted to keep her!!! Salma appears to have decided where she wants to live, for the time being at least.

Mostly the adoptants work out brilliantly for our cats, but Salma is rather a character. She has been winding up Kerstin’s other foster cat Cappuchina, and it appears does not give her affections to humans too readily. Kerstin and Kerstin’s boyfriend Stephan she likes, but more new people as adoptants are going to need to give this little ‘witch’ a little longer to settle in I think.

For now she is very relaxed, and has been enjoying cuddles in bed with Kerstin! Kerstin meanwhile is looking for a new home for her, and has diplomatically called he a little angel on the German homepages! OF course this IS actually true. For anyone who loves cats, Salma is a delightful little lady!!!

14/02/11: Today I have the fantastic news that Salma has her ‘forever home’ and will be off to her adoptants in the next 2 weeks. I hope she will be VERY happy.

07/02/11: Today Kerstin described Salma as “a little crazy and lovely girl who likes all“! She certainly seems to be very at home and to have some new dog friends!

Lovely Crazy Salma!

03/02/11: Salma is now doing brilliantly for a little feral girl. She has chosen to move out of her room at Kerstin’s and explore.

Kerstin says that when she gets up from her chair or first walks up to Salma she still runs and hides, but after a few minutes she comes out and likes to cuddle. She is also learning to play, has decided that Kerstin’s dogs and cat have ‘good characters’ and is generally feeling much more at home.

Kerstin now describes her as a ‘sweet little girl’ and says that ‘she has a lot of nonsense in her head… and tells it all the day…’, so it seems she is communicating!

I asked Kerstin her secret with ferals as she said that she has only really tried to stroke Salma a little. The rest she has done for herself. Mostly they need time, understanding and patience. Being young (7-8 months), Salma is VERY interested in everything which has helped her to come slowly more out of herself. I also think it is good for her to have tame animals around her, to give her confidence and to be a good example.

The other great news is that a ‘very lovely’ lady is interested in adopting her, so I hope for some even better news soon. In the meantime as always enjoy the photos. She looks great for a little, semi-feral street cat. Definitely a sweet little girl!

28/01/11: Salma also travelled to Germany on January 21st and is being fostered by Kerstin, one of my main contacts. At first she was hiding and seemed quite stressed by the trip, starting with us having big problems getting her into her box.

Today I asked Kerstin how she was, and have received 2 emails the second with these great new photos attached. All seems to be going fine but slowly, as expected with this nervous girl, and it sounds like she has the right understanding foster Mum.

“oh… today morning we had a wonder…
yesterday I put her out of the chimney and closed the hole.. because she for the last 3 days she prefers to live there… and she was not amused about this..
but this morning I visit her with my Axy again and she was happier and snurrs and cuddles 10 minutes with me…”

here are the first photos… we cuddled all the evening and now she is tired and is sleeping…
she is afraid of my camera… :o(
and it is only for a short time or an hour up to now… I crawl 1 hour on all fours and then I could stroke and cuddle her, then she eats, too (on her own she does not eat)… but after a while she is her old character and hiss… if I go out of the room and come back she does not remember me… that is a long way… but very lovely if she has cuddle time…

Salma In Germany

Salma In Germany

06/01/11: Salma is a pretty girl, but she may take me a while to re-home, as coyotes are not the most popular colour for a cat in Germany, AND she is a little nervous.

She is one of the kittens from the Subway colony in Mojacar. We had little choice but to rescue them all once we had started this project as they were mostly female, and born in April this year, Salma would definitely have been pregnant soon, and producing even more coyote females! We already have 6 from this one colony.

Although semi-feral Salma is making good progress. She loves wet food, fish and treats of all kinds, so is easy to lure out from under the table. Once out she responds well to stroking.

What she now needs is more regular attention, so she will be off to Germany in 2 weeks time to a foster home that has dealt with nervous cats before. From there I hope she will find an adoptant more easily, because what this lovely girl needs is to be settled in her forever home, where she can learn to properly trust her new family.
