Save whales and dolphins from cruel captivity

The Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums, which consists of almost 30 facilities nationwide, has just requested $800 million from Congress to help them get by during COVID-19. But zoos, aquariums, and marine parks are problematic places at best. Marine mammals particularly, like dolphins, whales, and porpoises, do quite badly in captivity and experts agree that using these animals for human entertainment only brings them suffering. These animals die young, grow depressed, exhibit aggression towards each other, and have even killed people — behaviors that are extremely rare in the wild.

But if these establishments are not bailed out, these animals could starve or suffer the neglect that comes from financial hardship. By making this money conditional on phasing out the captivity of whales, dolphins, and porpoises, Congress has a chance to really help these animals live healthier, happier lives! This would include no longer breeding these poor animals into lives of servitude and imprisonment, plus halting all imports of new animals into the United States. Sign the petition if you think Congress should only bail out The Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums if they promise to put an end to the captivity of whales, dolphins, and porpoises!
