11/06/11: It is definitely time for an update on big Simba, the cuddle boy. He travelled to Germany on May 20th, and has been declared totally charming by all who meet him.
Unfortunately he lost his first adoptant when his transport to Germany was delayed, but for now he is socialising well with humans and cats at his foster home and seems very contented. Kerstin took these new photos when she visited him the other day and doesn’t think it will be long before this beautiful boy has his forever home. We are hoping to find him one with a garden so that Simba can have his old inside/outside life back again!

02/04/11: Simba is one of 2 cats that I have just rescued from an English lady who must return home. She told me he was tabby with cross eyes, but that description really didn’t do this splendid cat justice.
He is a very big strong boy, siam-mix and with a lot of attitude! When I met him at his owner’s house he almost let me touch him before batting my hand away with his big paws. His owner however picked him up and cuddled him, and as she had had him for 6 years from a small kitten, I was happy that he was a tame cat.
By the time I got him back to Jenny’s however for his first night with us, his mood had changed rather alarmingly. He was extremely angry, hissing and spitting, and we couldn’t get within 3 feet of him. The next morning was no better and gauntlet gloves were required to box him, followed by more gloves and a 15 minute fight to sedate him at the vet’s. Diane was extremely concerned about how he would behave at the cattery.
For now he is penned alone, and the news today is much better. Simba has calmed down and is now accepting strokes. I am not surprised. I think we do have a tame cat, but as his father was a huge dark cat from the greenhouses, I think Simba has inherited a big fighter personality that comes out when he feels threatened. Simba doesn’t hide, he comes claws and teeth at the ready!
His owner did tell me that his best friend was not her second rather gentle cat, but one of her quite large dogs! This also doesn’t surprise me.
Simba really is a beautiful proud specimen as you can see from the photos, but he is also a loving boy, and I think in the right home can be very happy again. I would like him to have a garden as this is what he is used to and I can imagine him liking to prowl. I would also prefer him to not live with children, as I have seen his darker side. He is a dominant, magnificant animal and I think his name definitely suits him!!!
What an incredible turn-around! He most definitely was a “Simba kali” (fierce lion) a few days ago – as Sandra said, when he felt threatened and was prepared for a fight! But now he is looking so much more docile and relaxed and he IS a most beautiful boy with plenty of spirit!
