Tighter APHA Controls

Yet more evidence this morning of tighter controls by DEFRA/APHA at the ‘ports’ regards the transport of pets, and a positive effect is being reported.

The DEFRA inspector was at Calais again this morning, at 7am, and also APHA were inspecting the vans and checking the animals once through pet passport control.

They said that they have taken licenses away from more transporters in the last month than in all the time they have been involved i.e. since TRACES was mandated for rescue animals.

They also mentioned a number of raids/visits to rescues and breeders that had been found to be importing via incorrect use of TRACES.

Final word as I bid them adios …… “it is only just beginning, it will get harder to abuse the system!”
