TRACES: Future Changes

I have written recently about my thoughts on TRACES and Brexit, but this post is about some anticipated changes to the TRACES System here in Spain, following on from a discussion with our local IFAPA Government Vet.

It has always been the case that the address receiving the animal should notify their local Government Vet and have their address approved, but now they are saying that they will require the address that the animal is traveling from to have been approved. Not a huge impact on a registered protectora, but will mean that foster homes that the animals are traveling from will need to be registered and approved.

Speculation from the vet is that they will soon confirm that only protectora’s will be able to send animals from Spain under TRACES.

This I suspect will have an impact on those charities and rescues that are registered for TRACES but are not a protectora, and with many regions in Spain refusing to issue for TRACES registrations times could become interesting.
