The poultry company Foster Farms states that its policy is “to raise chickens free from hunger, discomfort, pain, cages, and distress.” But behind the scenes, their slaughterhouses are a totally different story. The torture, neglect, and horrors that the animals in these facilities face is nearly indescribable, but the animal rights group Direction Action Everywhere (DxE) went undercover to catch hours and hours of footage of the nightmares.
Live but “unviable” chickens are thrown into piles of dead ones, where they slowly die — crushed, suffocating, or drowning under dead bodies, blood, and excrement. The employees are forced to go so fast through the process of stunning the chickens before slaughter that many are still alive as they are finally sliced open at the automated neck slicer. This breakneck speed is also to blame for COVID-19 outbreaks among employees earlier in the pandemic.
The situation is horrifying for every living being involved, all to increase profit margins. Demand Foster Farms loses their American Humane Association certification until they finally clean up their act and treat their animal humanely!
