You can’t hear them coming

“When you have a combined cycleway and pathway it becomes very dangerous because they (e-scooters) do go quite quickly and you can’t judge how fast they’re coming, you can’t hear them coming. They are a particular issue on a shared cycle and pathway.” Brian, guide dog owner

E-scooters are almost always silent, so you need to be reliant on sight to know they are near. For people like Brian, who are blind or partially sighted, this can be a scary and potentially dangerous experience.

Recent research by Guide Dogs shows that the general public have seen more people using e-scooters on the pavement than on the road or cycle lanes, which is against the law.

Almost 2000 people have written to their MP and asked them to tell the Government to tackle dangerous and illegal use of e-scooters on the pavement, will you join them, Chris?

It’s time the Government recognises they need to act to make sure the law around e-scooters is respected. By taking action today, you can ensure that people with sight loss can walk on the pavement safely.

Best wishes,

Hannah
