As we head towards the end of another calendar year the numbers continue to mount: 671,697 miles driven, 3560 cats and 2915 dogs (of which 778 have been Galgos) transported, and 1397 cats re-homed.
2018 has been a pretty significant year for Sands and I (and of course our own pets) as we have decided to base ourselves back in the UK from March 2020.
While this in itself wont have any impact on the scheduled pet transports between the UK and EU, it will allow us to add more UK Pet Services including charter transports and pet transports within the UK.
2018 also saw the introduction by Eurotunnel of the 20 pet rule, while a number of Ferry Companies have stopped allowing pet transporters at all.
Add in the uncertainty over Brexit and the stricter pet scheme announced in the event of a No Deal Brexit, and 2019 will to say the least be eventful.
As for us we will continue to do what we have always done. Abide by the rules and find a way to continue to help the exceptional work done by the numerous rescues that continue to grow by the day it seems, transporting these deserving animals to better lives.
For now though Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone,
We are going to have a very quiet one as the years are getting harder on the old body, and the move back to the UK has not been without it’s own interesting moments, and it’s not ideal having to do it wit only ever having one of us in the UK at the same time: the first time we will both have been in the Cottage together will be the day we move in!
So finally, THANKS to all that continue to entrust their pets to us. Well done and keep up the good work to all pet transporters and all involved in animal welfare and rescue. It’s tough enough out there as it is (and I suspect going to tougher) without any of us falling out so once again, our slate is wiped clean and we will be happy to talk to and work with anyone.
