Pepe, Diego & Dino’s World

08/04/13: In the last few days some lovely new photos have arrived from Christina of her cat boys, Diego, Dino and Pepe, along with her new human boy, David. It seems all the cats are very happy with, and love the latest member of the family. Christina has been most surprised by Dino, who is the most nervous of the trio. He is always close to baby David, and at night he sleeps next to David’s bed. He is always smooching him and trying to lick his hands. Very cute!!!

11/04/12: Last week Christina sent me an update on our trio of boys, AND some fantastic new photos: “An update on Pepe, Diego and Dino is really overdue. Attached , I am sending you some pictures of our three darlings enjoying life. Now all of them completely love each other. They are doing everything together. Even Pepe and Dino are not hissing or fighting any more. We are all very happy.” Just wonderful!

31/10/11: This morning Christina sent me new photos of her 3 ‘machos’ and news: “At the weekend I was painting (Painting with acrylic colors is one of my hobbies) and of course the guys helped me. Pepe was walking over the canvas and Diego was sitting on my colors and brushes in a laundry basket. Only Dino was too occupied with fighting against his punching bag. It is one of the bad stinking valerian bags. He loves it.” Other news is that Pepe has developed a wound which has now been diagnosed as an autoimmune condition “eosinophiler granulom complex”. This causes itching, so Pepe has actually caused the wound himself. He now has special food and dietary supplements, and must not be stressed. Today he was sharing a bed with Christina’s husband (who is also ill) watching TV. Not TOO stressful!!! Enjoy the new photos.

27/10/11: The latest from Christina, Diego, Pepe and Domino’s Mum is that Diego and Dino are now firm friends. It is Pepe and Dino who sometimes hiss and shut at each other, probably because Dino is chunky and Pepe does not always want to play fight with him. Diego on the other hand is always up for a fight, and it seems has a lot of the mountain hunter in him, because he likes to explore and take long walks! “Diego is so independent. A few times I have seen him crossing a bigger street here. I thought my heart is jumping out of my chest. But I must say he is behaving very responsible with the street. He looks very carefully before he crosses the street. I never imagined that he will walk so far. But I think he detected the huge park behind the street and he likes it much. There is a lake and lots of grass and trees. I think it is the reason why he likes to go there. And I am sure he finds enough to eat. He does not eat so much at home, but when he comes from outside he often has a huge tummy and a few times I have seen him with a mouse or a bird just hiding because he does not like to share. Pepe always brings a mouse for me for having breakfast. It is not funny to be in the bathroom drying my hair and pepe suddenly appears with his goods. He threw the mouse directly on my feed and it was still alive … AAHHHHH!!”

09/09/11: Time to meet Domino, a rather lovely, AND I think handsome, Tomcat. I do at this point have to admit to a particular liking for black and black & white cats! but he is gorgeous anyway. Domino is one of 4 cats that I rescued from their re-homing plight. Their owner contacted one of the small catteries I work with about 6 weeks before he and his family were due to return to the UK for good, AND his flights were already booked! All 4 had been adopted by his daughter as kittens and Domino is now about 2 years old. He is the lucky one as Christina and Sebastian have taken him on trial as a potential new friend for Pepe and Diego.

I was concerned that he might arrive in Germany in a very un-sociable mood as Domino and his 3 old friends had already been shut in a single room for over a month after their family left them, followed by their first week together in an even smaller cattery pen! Matt who took him first had found him hard to stroke, and he was very difficult to box! It seems however that on arrival in Germany, Domino (now re-named Dino) worked out very quickly that life had suddenly got a LOT better. He relaxed immediately and showed his true friendly nature!!! This came from his new Dad the day after he traveled on the August 27th transport:

“I just want to leave a quick comment with regards to our new foster cat Domino which we renamed to “Dino” as renaming our cats has brought us good luck in the past (see Diego, Pepe and Luis).

He is such a handsome guy and already yesterday evening we got to know his lovely character. All of a sudden he came out of his hiding spot and started to meow. When my wife and I sat down on the floor he came close and started cuddling heavily. We were totally astonished. This morning he has already explored his new home! It also seems like Pepe and Diego are getting along with him. Of course there is some grumbling but Dino is not really impressed…

Wish us good luck, that our little diva Diego will accept him and that Dino maybe can stay at our place, not as a foster cat, but as a permanent family member. Many thanks to Anke at Katzenherzen for giving Olivita a foster home, which made it possible for us to take Dino. It seems like our home is a household exclusively for tomcats!”

Since then these lovely photos have arrived, and the latest news is that Diego rather likes Domino/Dino, which is great as the human side of the family all already totally love him!

08/09/11: Here are some newer, lovely photos of Diego and Pepe (Theo and Orlando). These were actually taken just after their new housemate, Olivita, arrived. The boys are looking very relaxed and happy, but as we now know things quickly became much more stressful! Next I will publish the photos of the boy’s latest housemate, big Domino, whom they seem to like better!

07/06/11: More new photos of Diego and Pepe today, along with this email:
“Both are very fine. They LOVE to be outside. Yesterday Pepe started to fight with the neighbours male cat twice as big as Pepe. But with the help of Diego he won. Half an houre later Pepe tryed to bring a dead bird home to eat it in the house ;-))) And Diego seems to eat alwasy outside…They are very happy!”
They have also been having a great time while Tina and Sebastian decorate their bedroom … jumping in boxes and dragging the old wallpaper remnants through the house!
Fantastic!!!

Lovely photos of Diego. His Mum says he is becoming a real siam boy with ‘Russian’ ears and a very pointed face. She thinks he will always be a slim cat. Meanwhile it seems Pepe is filling out and becoming quite the tough guy!!!

20/04/11: Today new photos cames from Christina, Diego (Theo) and Pepe’s (Orlando) Mum in Germany. It seems life couldn’t be much better for these 2!

With the photos was this lovely email:

“This is Christina, the Mum of Pepe and Diego. I just wanted to keep you up to date about our sugar boys. I have attached some pictures to show what they are actually doing and which adventures they are having 🙂
I cannot tell you how happy the whole family is with these two little monsters. Diego is getting to be more and more confiding and cuddly. When the alarm clock for me and my husband is ringing in the morning he directly comes into our bedroom and claims all our attention. He wants to be stroked and cuddled and he loudly asks for it.

Since friday the two boys are allowed to go outside and the really really love it. They are roaming through our garden and the neighbours’ gardens. They really enjoy the nature and the spring. When they come in in the evening the are totally tired and they directly fall asleep dreaming of catching some bees and butterflies.

These two are a great enrichment for the whole family. My father-in-law (Gerald) was badly ill a few weeks ago. The two boys, expecially Pepe, watched over him the whole day and heard him every time. Gerald told me that he felt so comfortable not to be alone during the day when the rest of the family was working.”

Fantastic!!!

16/04/11: Today I received a new photo of Diego, but this one didn’t come from Germany.

Susan who looked after him and his brothers after he was born in her garden, sent me one of Diego with his ‘twin’ (inquisitive) Boffin. I always knew that the litter originally had 4 kittens, and the one that was killed (by 2 hunting dogs) was another mainly white one. I didn’t realise however just how similar Theo and Boffin were.

They also look very close in this photo. Theo when I fostered him here, was always a little removed from his bigger, stronger brothers. I suspected as much but it is pretty clear that it was Boffin whom Diego was close to as a baby. He too Susan has now told me, was a more delicate, thinner built little boy.

I am very happy that having both lost their original buddies, Diego and Pepe are such good friends. Here’s to a continued very happy life for them both.

Enjoy the photos, including the ones of where Diego was born.

23/03/11: Now I have FANTASTIC new photos of Diego (Theo) and Pepe (Orlando). They are already best friends and after only one week, Diego likes to be stroked.

This is a VERY happy home!

15/03/11: I have just received the first photos of Theo (Diego) in his new home, and it seems that he and Orlando (Pepe) are already friends and playing together!

The other great news is that Theo, who is a little nervous of people, “yesterday evening slept on the couch and Christina could stroke him. In the night he came to bed and slept with Sebastian.”

All is well … enjoy the photos!

14/03/11: Theo (Diego) arrived at his new home after midnight on Saturday after a long transport to Germany. His new Dad has written a lovely comment below. All seems very well, and Orlando (Pepe) is slowly accepting him.

10/03/11: It is confirmed. Theo will be the new friend for little Orlando (Pepe). He will travel to Germany overnight today, and I can’t wait for new photos of the 2 of them together!

03/03/11: I wrote about Theo’s Ginger Brothers, Bongo and Mungo, as a separate post as it has been confirmed that they will be adopted in Germany together.

Theo is still waiting for his forever home, but he will also travel on the March 11th transport to meet Martina Pulver (mapu) who will foster him until an adoptant is found.

Theo is the most nervous of the 3 but is a very sweet little boy, and I am sure in a proper home with more attention, he will become a lovely cat. He has stopped hiding when I go into their room to feed them, and will come right up for wet food, but he still runs away before I can touch him.

He is smaller than his 2 brothers, and looks almost like the sister of the litter, but Theo is definitely a boy, just a less sporty, rough-play one!

04/02/11: These little charmers have just arrived in Almerimar from near Albox. Little black Golly-Berry is about 6 months old, and the other 3 are 4 months and are brothers.

They are currently settling into my neighbour’s spare bedroom, and I will be checking on them again tomorrow. This may be a bit of a shock particularly for Golly who is used to being outside and is apparently a ‘good hunter’! but it is temporary, and for now they will be safe and well fed.

    Hello all,

Theo (now Diego) arrived in Germany Saturday night. We picked him up together with Anke from Katzenherzen and her boyfriend after spending a lovely afternoon at their home waiting for the strays to arrive.

At around 12:00 at night our new little baby finally arrived, exhausted by the long trip and seemingly overwhelmed by the new impression he got when we entered his new home. To say this in advance: the next afternoon we phoned Anke to state an official complaint: Diego was announced as being totally shy. To cut it short: he is not, at least not most of the time… 🙂

After we opened his box he came out immediately and started inspecting his new castle without paying too much attention to the 4 grown ups standing around him or Pepe who was looking at us in a manner that clearly indicated: “What the &%$§ is going on here?!?!”. Pepe was merely shocked about the obviousness with which Diego inspected his own personal kingdom with no sign of fear and all he could was to follow him head to tail.

When Diego started to come closer to us it was enough for Pepe and he started “arguing” with the result of being even more ignored. During the night when we slept it seems like there had been some more arguing going on between those two with the result of Pepe displaying two little bruises in the morning. Brave little Diego!

Yesterday Diego slept most of the time beneath our bed and Pepe didn’t disturb him or showed signs of further aggression. Later in the evening when Diego finally came out to eat (by the way, he is a meat machine eating everything coming into his path including Pepe’s ration) we started playing with him and now he is already coming closer and accept being softly touched for a second. He even jumped on our bed at some time late that night and accepted being touched and stroked. We couldn’t believe our eyes!

This morning Diego was a little bit shy again towards us, but it seems like he shares Pepe’s biggest hobby, which is playing soccer with small aluminium foil balls. Well at last both of them are Spanish… 🙂

Pepe is also more relaxed again and he has restarted his daily routines like helping my farther with his computer work, observing us cooking or clearly announcing his needs for being cuddled heavily.

Christina and I hope that Diego will continue with this positive development he has already shown in the short time he lives at our home and we will for sure send you some pictures of our lovely boys.

I am pretty sure that Luis is now also watching over Diego as he wants Pepe to be happy again…

Last but not least: Again we (including my parents) want to thank all of you for your precious work and that you have given us the opportunity to adopt such priceless animal companions.

    Keeping you updated.

    Best regards from rainy Germany

Fantastic. I am very happy that Diego is doing so well and is not SO shy! Here he had only one room to explore, and 2 brothers that were bigger and stronger than him. I think now with you and Pepe he will be very happy, and I hope Pepe will love him soon.
Thank you for giving this little boy a lovely home.
