07/10/11: time for a quick update on Nemo, who was ALMOST Lancelot’s friend for life! If you have read all of this post, you will know that Nemo decided he didn’t want to share Petra his new Mum with Lancelot and her other cats and became very jealous. He went off to a lovely foster home where he could be an only cat, AND because Nemo is such a lovely boy really, his latest Mum has fallen completely in love with him and will keep him forever. This is a great ending. Nemo has his new Mum to himself which is what he wanted, Lancelot has a great new buddy in Finn, and Finn got to stay at Petra’s and be her therapy cat, instead of being a mere foster cat!!
02/10/11: Finn, Lancelot’s best buddy, IS a very special cat. He is now a therapy cat. This all started when one of his new Mum’s little boy patients came to the house for an appointment. This little boy had not spoken for years, but when he saw Finn (and then Lancelot) he started to talk to them. This was wonderful, and as Finn is such a confident cat and loves to be friendly to all, Petra now takes him to work with her in a harness! Today she wrote to me about this again, AND sent me a lovely new photo of Lancelot, who is fine and still growing!! Apparently he is half Main Coone!
Everybody is VERY proud of Finn. He is a very special cat:
“We are all very proud of him!! Everyone in my practice loves him! He goes there every Monday, and helps me with 4 very special cases (threee of them autism), and of course with his new friend F. The boy’s family has even decided to adopt a cat and it will be a birthday present for the boy next week. She is a little tiger girl, one of my former foster kittens; she needs a place where she can go outside, and her present owners cannot offer her that. So we solve two problems at one and the same time! On Thursdays we visit a senior residence, and he cheers up the elderly people living there! They adore him; the old ladies have started to knit little scarfs and coats for the winter for him. It’s so sweet!”
Special Cuddle Boy Finn
15/08/11: It seems that Finn does have his forever home. Lancelot loves him and Finn loves Lancelot. As you can see from these new photos, all is very well and the boys are firm friends. The other FANTASTIC news is that Lancelot now weighs 5.1 kg and is very well. Good for him! AND thank you once again to Petra for saving him and then giving a lovely home to Finn as well. She is a very special Mum.

27/07/11: Lancelot’s new friend is still not completely confirmed and is now likely to be Finn. Things have not worked out with Nemo, who seems to have fallen in love with his new Mum but then decided he wants her all to himself! He has become quite aggressive to the other cats including Lancelot, so as Petra has several own cats, she has decided not to keep him. For now he will go to a foster home but the latest is that another lady is very interested in him as an only cat which could be just the home for Nemo.
Meanwhile Finn and Lancelot are the ones who seems to be becoming firm friends, so Petra is considering giving a forever home to Finn instead.

19/07/11: Lancelot actually got 2 news friends when our 09/07 transport reached Germany! Nemo arrived as planned but Petra is also kindly fostering Finn from PAWs. It’s all working out really well; Nemo and Lancelot have met and there is no big problem, Nemo being a gentle, non-territorial soul. Funnily the 2 red boys Finn and Lancelot have had words, so it is good that Finn is not going to be Lancelot’s permanent friend!
Nemo unfortunately appeared to have a parasitic infection on arrival and was quite thin, but after the huge problems with Lancelot, Petra will deal with this easily. Nemo is already feeling better, and I am sure will be very happy in his fantastic new home, where he will get lots of love, much more attention and all the care he needs. Already he is accepting strokes and letting Petra comb him, after a couple of nervous first days. All is very well in Lancelot and Nemo’s world!

03/07/11: Lancelot is happy and well, and in his latest photos is searching for more chicken! The other news is that he is about to get a new friend Nemo, who is another cat from Montse’s rescue home in Almeria. Nemo was rescued as a tiny kitten from some children who were trying to drown him! He is now 3 so I am very happy for him that he will get this chance of a lovely home with Lancelot. I met him at vet Miguel’s last week and he is a gentle, loving sweet boy. Lancelot’s Mum has decided that he needs a male friend, as he has been enjoying the company of a friend’s cat, Petra has been looking after for a few weeks. He is also getting a little strong with her female cats, which I think is another sign he is feeling good.
Nemo will be on the next transport to Germany, I hope on Friday!

18/06/11: Latest news! “Lancelot is very fine. Yesterday his blood count was wonderful normal. Also the data of his one residual kindney are normal! So the enzyme therapy and the diet food worked!”
07/06/11: Today I had the news that we have all been waiting for. Lancelot IS amazingly recovering well after his operation and is enjoying his garden. I am looking forward to more news soon. Thank you again to his new Mum Petra for everything she has done for him.
Lancelot In his Garden
31/05/11: Lancelot is alive! Yesterday he woke from his coma after 6 days. He is still very sick, and was very afraid but now there is hope.
Poor Lancelot has lost part of his intestines and one kidney, and the German vets have never seen a cat survive such an operation. At one point during the operation they wanted to euthanise him, but Petra, his adoptant, wouldn’t let them. She has been amazing in reacting so fast and doing so much for Lancelot, and he will definitely owe his life to her and the German vets.
There is a chance he can go home tomorrow, still with a tube in his stomach, to continue his recovery. This will be possible because Petra’s father is a vet. He has been SO lucky finding this fantastic home, as I know that Petra will look after him brilliantly.
His problems are not over yet, but we have hope. Our Spanish street cats appear to be made of pretty strong stuff. Amazing boy!
28/05/11: Yesterday I had very sad news from Anke in Germany. Lancelot is VERY, VERY sick.
He travelled to Germany last weekend to a lovely forever home, and at first all seemed fine. His adoptant Petra noticed that he wasn’t eating much but at first thought it was just due to tiredness after the journey. 2 days later she was still worried so got him checked out and her vet gave her a tonic to encourage his appetite.
Yesterday I had an email from Anke to say that on Monday night he collapsed and had to have emergency surgery to remove masses of hair from his stomach and intestines. This was the worst case the vet had even seen and some of his intestines were perforated! Horrible!!! The last Anke heard he was still unconscious and there was little chance for him. I still hope but I am waiting for more sad news.
Long haired cats do not really belong in a hot country, and need so much care and attention. Poor Montse who had him from a baby is very upset. He was eating fine before he left, but this problem has obviously been building and unfortunately reached critical stage in Germany. Now I must asked Montse to get any other very long haired cats checked out urgently. We must make sure something like this never happens again.
28/04/11: I haven’t had the pleasure of helping to find homes for many long-haired cats, but last weekend I met Lancelot via a rescue home in Almeria, and I have a feeling he will have an adoptant in quick time!
He is a gorgeous boy, and although a little shy with strangers, is very friendly and sweet natured. I will try to find out more about his background when I have someone to translate for me, but for now he is well-looked after and fully ready to travel. Who knows maybe he will even sneak onto the next transport to Germany at the end of this month.
I have to admit to a preference for more short haired cats myself, in general that is, but Lancelot could possibly succeed in winning me over, as he is SOooo beautiful!

What a beautiful longhair boy.I will pray for him.I have had long hair persian cats since 1984 4 from the same breeder all with differant quality fur, could comb all of them everyday. These 2 I have now the red male I comb and fuss him everyday no problems,BUT the female tortie (7year old brother sister born by cesarian)Wow she is very long hair and a madam it is a big fight to comb her once or twice a week. The energy needed. The breeder did warn me diff fur than her brother. For the first time this winter she had nots which were at the back of her legs it was a struggle in the end I gave her back legs a poodle cut fur has soon grown. They cope very well in the heat and travel by car twice a year to england so I am very lucky.I will be more careful now after poor Lancelot he will pull through he has someone to love him.Paulinexx
